The Wyoming Transportation Museum also called the Cheyenne Depot Museum It is located inside the historic Union Pacific Railroad depot. The depot was built in 1886 to 1887 and is probably one of the most attractive railway stations in America. The station was built from blocks of sandstone brought up from Fort Collins, CO, and stands directly down the street from Wyoming State Capitol building. It was renovated 1922 to lengthen the building and redecorated in 1929. Another renovation took place between 2001 and 2006 and included a $6.5 million dollar improvement provided by the City of Cheyenne and plaza was built in front of the depot. This plaza hosts a variety of music and events throughout the year. A typical western motif adorns the walls and ceiling and is rather unique in its styling. The marble floor (left) inside the main lobby depicts the original route from Cheyenne to Omaha, Nebraska.
