Special Note: Please don't lecture me about "this road never had this type of equipment", "your numbers don't actually match the real equipment", "the model manufacturer never produced that road or color", etc. I am well aware of these conditions, but I am also not fanatical about particulars. I have repainted most of the equipment here to suit my particular needs. I try to get it close enough short of flying to Europe for a $2.00 bottle of custom paint. I use Louis A. Marre's publications of  "DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES: THE FIRST 50 YEARS" and "THE CONTEMPORARY DIESEL SPOTTER'S GUIDE" to identify my powered equipment. If you think the locomotive itself is mis-identified, please don't hesitate to tell me.

Locomotives

SOUTHERN PACIFIC

GE U23-B, SP #8263 (Bachmann)
EMD SW1500, SP #2638 (Athern)
GE U23-B in Southern Pacific colors. This is a relativley cheap Bachman locomotive, probably out of some pre-packaged train set. But for asthetics, it is useful in a yard setting or on a siding. The paint covers a Union Pacific scheme underneath. Athern's EMD SW1500 in Southern Pacific colors. I only have one of these, but I would like to get another one to set up in a DT&I scheme.
EMD GP-40-2  SP #7925 (Bachmann)
This GP-40-2 is one of two cheap Bachmann locomotives that are permanently joined for power and will pull approx. 19 cars together.

CHICAGO & NORTHWESTERN
GE AC44CW, C&NW # 8815 (Athern) EMD GP20, C&NW #358(Mantua)
My newest aquisition is this Athern C44W DASH 8 which I truly love. However, I need to get another one to complete the heavy freight look of my layout design. This Mantua EMD GP-20 doesn't run at all. Needs a motor, but it looks good in the yard. It is a salvage from a garage sale and was pretty beat up when I got it. I had to manufacture all the hand railings, but I think it turned out pretty well. It originally had Norfolk Southern markings.
EMD F7s C&NW #4410 & 2013 (Mantua)
Alco C-630 C&NW #553(Mantua)
These two Chicago & Northwestern FP7s are basically for decoration. They are mismatched power-wise, and usually just for show. Custom painted to my specifications. Whether or not C&NW actually had any Alco C-630s is questionable, but I included one anyway. Custom painted to my specifications.

SOO LINE
EMD GP40, SOO Line #217 (Bachmann)
EMD GP38-2, SOO Line #162 (Athern)
The lead geep is a Bachmann GP-40, and is actually the best heavy locomotive I have. It will pull up to nineteen 50 ft boxcars by itself before complaining. The second unit is an Atlas GP-38-2, of which I have 2 powered and one dummy. I painted the SOO colors over SanteFe on the lead unit, and over Canadian Pacific on the second unit.

METRA
EMD F40PH Metra #138 (Mantua) EMD Cowl unit F40 Metra #605 (Athern)
Metra #138 is an EMD F40PH in modified "AMTRAK" body design. This styling took the place of the EMD Cowl type unit design. I have yet to find any commuter cars for these locos.  Metra #605 is and EMD Cowl type unit. Most of this type of locomotive were SD types with three axle trucks. This one has two axle trucks of the GP type.

ILLINOIS CENTRAL
EMD SW1 Illinois Central #1007 & 1008 (Athern)
For $20.00 I found this set of SW1s plus an IC caboose, all in perfect condition. The second unit is a dummy, but I thought they would look just great in in the strip mining areas of the layout.
