Waterville, Maine
The "Old 470", as she is called locally, was the last passenger steam locomotive run by Maine Central. She is a Pacific class 4-6-4 coal/oil powered locomotive with 72" drivers. Her last run was June 13, 1954 from Portland to Bangor. 470 was given to the City of Waterville by Maine Central on their 100th anniversary, October 28, 1962. I was a bit saddened to see the shape she is in, left to rust and vandalism. She could still be preserved if someone stepped up to the plate, but she has been there quite a long time. At least they mow the grass around her occasionally.
