Illinois Raises Sales Tax Rate In Certain Counties

NOTICE

The Illinois Department of Revenue has raised the sales tax rate in certain counties. The tax increase will be effective beginning April 1, 2008. Included are: DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, Will, and Cook counties.

 

Received in a February 2008 notice from the revenue department, the new rate for general merchandise, qualifying food, drugs, and medical appliances* in DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties is 7% as opposed to the 6 1/2% you are paying now. This is to supplement the RTA (Regional Transportation Authority). See new rates for Cook County below.

Additional tax rates for Cook County is as follows:

 

General Merchandise = 1% (an increase of 0.25%)

Qualifying food, drug, and medical appliances = 1.25% (an increase of 0.25%)
